COVID-19 Update
Our top priority is the health and safety of patients and staff at Town Square Dental. Dr. Cindy Crews understands these are uncertain times. It can be difficult to grasp the current status and risk of COVID-19 infection, especially with mixed messages on the news and elsewhere.
We want to assure our patients that we have taken several precautions for the safety of our patients and staff. We have not only met, but exceeded all necessary protective personal equipment (PPE) standards put in place by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Texas Dental Association.
In addition to our staff wearing masks, gowns, face shields, gloves, and hair covering:
- Our facility has five medical-grade HEPA 13 air filters that destroy viruses and bacteria and are in use constantly throughout the day.
- We have ultraviolet (UV) light air purifiers in each of our treatment rooms, which are run in 15-minute cycles to kill airborne bacteria between patients.
- A fogger using a hypochlorous acid (HOCI) solution sprays a fine mist to sanitize our office at the close of each business day.
- Counters, pens, clipboards and other surfaces are disinfected multiple times daily using a UV light wand to kill bacteria and eliminate germs on common surfaces.
How Does UV Light Kill Germs?
Ultraviolet (UV) light is used as a disinfectant because it can kill COVID-19 particles it comes into contact with. It does so by destroying the molecules that bind the DNA of viruses, bacteria, mold, and mildew. UV light is particularly helpful because it doesn’t involve the use of toxic chemicals and can destroy bacteria even if it the bacteria is a drug-resistant strain.
Why Use an HOCI Solution?
Recent studies have shown that hypochlorous acid (HOCI) can kill the COVID-19 virus on surfaces. HOCI is a weak acid that does not irritate human skin or tissue. In fact, it is naturally produced in the body as a defense against intruding microorganisms. HOCI is a safe, effective sanitizer because it causes no bodily harm, while destroying dangerous bacteria and viruses that pose a risk to our health.
